The Department of Public Safety protects the safety and security
of students, staff, faculty and visitors at Duquesne University’s
campuses. Our department works to prevent crime, increase safety
awareness, and provide security and law enforcement.
Though located close to the excitement and convenience of downtown
Pittsburgh, Duquesne University has the feel of a sheltered community,
on a quiet, tree-filled campus. Still, it is important that students
understand how to prevent and report crimes.
DU Emergency Alert (text message and voice notification)
In compliance with the requirements from the Pennsylvania College and University Information Act and the Clery Campus Crime Statistics Act, Duquesne University’s annual security report is available to all students and employees. This report is included in the Safety First magazine and contains three years of crime statistics on campus and on areas adjacent to campus.

The Duquesne University Department
of Public Safety exists to serve and protect the
University community and the environment that
sustains and encourages moral and intellectual
growth. We facilitate this goal by anticipating
and preventing unsafe conditions and protecting
individuals from the imprudent or illegal acts
of others.
To do this, we seek out educated
and motivated men and women and train them to
function as University Police Officers. Our commitment
is to improve the quality of life on campus. Conflict
resolution is our primary goal accomplished through
mutual cooperation and understanding, or when
necessary, through imposition of administrative
or legal sanctions. Inherent in the application
of these sanctions is that such actions shall
be ethical, constitutional, and humanistic.
